Statin Drugs Lower Cholesterol but Deplete Coenzyme Q10

© 2005 - Frank Mangano

To lower cholesterol, doctors often prescribed drugs that are categorized as statin drugs. These drugs are effective in lowering cholesterol, but not without also depleting the body of an extremely important vitamin like substance, Coenzyme Q10.

Coenzyme Q10 is found in human tissue and is important to every cell of the body. It serves as a powerful antioxidant and stimulates the immune system. Inadequate levels of coenzyme Q10 have been found in those with muscular dystrophy and diabetes. It also works to protect the body against everything from allergies to obesity to cardiovascular disease. It is effective in regulating blood pressure and strengthening the heart muscle.

It is common for people concerned about their overall health to take coenzyme Q10 supplements to ensure an adequate supply for the production of energy at the cellular level. It is also used for those recovering from cancer treatments to strengthen their weakened immune system.

Everyone needs coenzyme Q10 because it is part of the make up of each cell in the body. As we age, our supply naturally lowers, but that depletion can occur much too soon for those who have been prescribed popular statin drugs to lower their cholesterol. Those who have high cholesterol run the risk of depleting their body’s natural supply of coenzyme Q10 when they take any of the popular statin drugs including Crestor, Lipitor, Mevacor, Zocor, or Pravachol.

It is recommended that those over the age of 50 supplement their diet with coenzyme Q10. Those taking statin drugs need to be concerned about restoring their body’s supply of coenzyme Q10 no matter their age.

If you would prefer to lower cholesterol without the use of statin drugs and their undesirable side effects, there are effective all natural ways to do so. A proper diet which includes low-fat and low cholesterol foods, along with the right combination of vitamins and minerals can significantly lower cholesterol. However, it is not advisable to go off of any prescriptions without consulting with your doctor. If you have not yet started taking statin drugs to lower cholesterol, you can probably avoid having to begin by implementing the all natural proven plan for lowering cholesterol as found in The 60 Day Prescription Free Cholesterol Cure.
