Noni Juice, Potassium, and Reducing Cholesterol

One of the latest trends in natural supplements, including being used to reduce cholesterol has been given the name Noni juice. The juice actually comes from a fruit called the Morinda citrifolia which grows in the Asia Pacific region of the world. Not only is Noni juice believed to reduce cholesterol, but it is also being touted as a remedy for many other diseases. None of these claims are substantiated with research and may or may not help with any specific diseases or conditions.

Fruits, including the Noni fruit do contain some properties known to fight disease and even reduce cholesterol. The antioxidants found in fresh citrus fruits guard against damaging free radicals and can keep both the body and the mind young and healthy, even aiding the prevention of Alzheimer's disease.

Noni juice is not a pleasant tasting drink and there are better fruit juices for providing the body with antioxidants. Orange juice, grape juice, and other natural, no-sugar added juices contain vitamin C and the right amount of potassium. Because Noni juice is very high in potassium, it can actually provide toxic levels to people with kidney disease or those who take certain blood pressure medications that are diuretics and designed to spare potassium loss.

One recent study conducted by a manufacturer of Noni juice products did study the effect of the juice on reducing cholesterol in smokers. Their data on the small study found a reduction in cholesterol by an average of 40 mg/dL but it was also served mixed with grape and blueberry juice, both of which are good at managing cholesterol. The same group went on to study the impact of excessive consumption and verified it does have a damaging effect on the liver, even causing one person to need a liver transplant. In defense of Noni juice one manufacture said that 3-4 ounces per day can have the same effect and cost the same as taking a statin drug designed to reduce cholesterol.

A healthy diet, rich in antioxidants and containing supplements that are clinically proven to be safe and effective is the best way to reduce cholesterol. To learn more, you can get the The 60-Day Prescription Free Cholesterol Cure.
