How Yoga Can Help in Lowering Cholesterol

Yoga may be a trend in the United States that has come and gone and come back again. But don’t confuse a trend with a fad. Yoga is an ancient form of relaxation and exercise that has many healthy benefits, including lowering cholesterol. You don’t have to be as flexible as a gymnast either to realize the cholesterol lowering benefits.

The Buffalo Center for Integrated Medicine reported in January 2005 that relaxation techniques and specifically yoga can help in lowering LDL cholesterol which is the “bad” cholesterol in the blood that is produced by the liver. Scientists in general have made the connection between higher stress levels and an increase in LDL cholesterol levels. Yoga takes care of lowering stress, which results in lower cholesterol.

One great feature of yoga as a stress reducer is that you don’t need any special equipment and can easily go at your own pace, even if working with a group. Some added side-effects of yoga are greater flexibility and a gentle toning of the muscles. It’s a pain-free way to meditate away your daily stress while lowering cholesterol.
